Reggaeton is said to be a mixture of various musical genres with influences from various countries. Reggaeton's origins are closely associated with Puerto Rico, where donquijote.org states that it first gained momentum and later commercially packaged. Interestingly enough, most Reggaeton musicians happen to be Puerto Rican. Reggaeton is often seen as provocative because of its lyrics, and is often associated with Hip-Hop.

The first artist that's going to be mentioned is J Balvin. J Balvin's real name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvin, and he is from Medellín, Colombia.
J Balvin released his first single in 2009 called ""Ella Me Cautivó", and according to
allmusic.com,
the song charted at 35 on the U.S. Tropical Chart. J Balvin's 2015 single "Ginza" entered the Hot Latin Songs chart at number one
and later went to be certified platinum. He then went on to release his album "Energia" in 2016 which featured top artists like
Pharell, Sky, and BIA. The album also had many contributions from top artists such as Daddy Yankee, Yandel, and Juanes.

The next artist that I'm going to talk about is Maluma. Maluma is also a stage name and his real name is Juan Luis Londoño Arias, and he
is also from Medellín, Colombia. Maluma started his singing career in 2011 with his song "Farandulera", which he released without being
signed to a label. As allmusic.com has on their
website, Maluma's song gained so much popularity through the internet and radio airplay, that he was later signed to Sony Music. The next year
Maluma released his debut album "Magia" and several of the songs on it received constant airplay. His song "La Temperatura" was his major hit
off his album and it received a Latin Grammy nomination. Since 2016 with his album "Pretty Boy, Dirty Boy", Maluma has been increasing
in popularity and it seems that Maluma will keep staying on the charts. His next album that he's working is said to include both English
and Spanish material.

The last artist that I am going to mention is Nicky Jam. Nicky Jam is, you guessed it, a stage name. His real name is Nick Rivera, and was
born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. According to lamezcla.com,
Nicky Jam and his family later moved to Puerto Rico when Nicky Jam was only six years old. Nicky Jam created his first album when he was
only eleven years old, and although it wasn't much of a success, he did get noticed by some music producers. Once he started working in
the music industry, he had the opportunity to meet Daddy Yankee in the early 2000s. They worked together for a while as friends, but ended
the friendship and soon went their separate ways. After eight years, Nicky Jam and Daddy Yankee reunited and worked on Daddy Yankee's album
together. The website allmusic.com states that
Nicky Jam has since released his own album in 2017, named "Fenix", and it's his first album since 2007.
